MGP Ingredients, Inc. (MGPI) joined with other organizations in the community to assist area Missouri River flood victims through KAIR Radio’s “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” program. Thecompany placed collection boxes throughout the facility from July 15 to July 22 for employees to donate non-perishable food items, toiletries and other essential items.

MGP Ingredients, Inc. (MGPI) has announced the promotion of Brian Wright to manager of distillery operations. In his new role, Wright is responsible for leading plant operations at the Atchison, Kan. distillery. One of his primary job responsibilities is to drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiencies.

Miracle Treat Day

The local Dairy Queen, located at 412 S. 10th, will participate in this year’s Miracle Treat Day, which is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 11. During this one-day event, the local DQ will donate $1 per Blizzard Treat to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to benefit Children’s Mercy and KU Medical Center.

Festival Weekend Spectacular

Even with the changes brought about by the river, the Amelia Earhart Festival weekend proved spectacular. Jason Nichols of the Chamber caught much of the thrill of the Lake Fest and Concert in the Sky in pictures. Those included are of the shows.

Lots of Festival Activity

Saturday evening was a busy time in Atchison. Of course all afternoon there where activities all along the mall. At five everything moved to Warnock, except the carnival. As the sun lowered in the sky and temperatures lowered some, the carnival became a much more active place. At the same time crowds were moving to Warnock for the Concert in the Sky.
