County Government Day

Seniors from Atchison High, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, and Atchison County Community High School spent Wednesday morning with county officials. Approximately 70 students started in Court Room for an explanation of County Government in Kansas. 

The students then broke up into groups to visit with individual officials and tour county offices. A large group heard from County Attorney Jerry Kuckelman what it is to be a County Attorney and Clerk of the District Court Dona Oswald.

Snow Day

All Atchison K-12 schools are closed today, Monday, February 13. Highland Technical Center is having classes. This is the first snow day of the 2011-12 school year.

AHS Theatre This Weekend

"Class Dismissed" is being presented Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The Friday performance has been cancelled. Performances on the 12th is at 7 PM and the 13th at 2 PM in the Little Theatre at Atchison High, 1400 Riley. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and available at the door. This play is a comic/drama about an English teacher that takes his class hostage because of their apathy towards education.

AHS Girls Tennis at Lafayette

The AHS lady red tennis team closed out their regular season with a duel meet at the Noyes court in St Joe against Lafayette. The team came away with a couple of wins. Nikki Hare, #1 singles defeated her opponent, Ashlann Shroyer,  8-4. Hare finished the season with a 10-14 record. #5, Aliana Thompson won her first match of the season against Devin Clark by a score of 8-4. The rest of the team did not manage to win a match but played some good games.

AHS Girls Tennis

The girls Tennis Team traveled to St. Joe on Wed. to play in the Lafayette Tournament at the Noyes Courts. Our girls were in several of the matches but Nikki Hare was the only player to win a two matches. Nikki finished in 4th place while the team finished the day in sixth place.
