Health Care Law Repealed by House Bill

Sun, 07/15/2012 by Lynn Jenkins of US Representative 2nd District

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to repeal the 2010 health care law. I co-sponsored the repeal bill, because I believe our current health care insurance system is still badly broken, and the Affordable Care Act  only makes it worse. It will lead to fewer jobs, more debt, and reduced access to quality care.

Another Disappointing Jobs Report

Fri, 07/06/2012 by Lynn Jenkins of US Representative 2nd District

Today’s jobs report marks the third, straight month of bad news for the economy as the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.2% in June.  According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, there are still 12.7 million unemployed Americans struggling to find work, while millions more have given up looking altogether.

On Thursday, H.R. 436, the Medical Device Tax Repeal Act, which I co-authored, passed through the House of Representatives with strong bipartisan support 270 to 146, clearing another hurdle to becoming law. It is now on its way to the Senate.

10th Anniversary of 9/11

Sat, 09/10/2011 by Lynn Jenkins of US 2nd District of Kansas

This Sunday will be the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on America. As I reflect on the morning 10 years ago when our nation came under attack, I can still vividly recall the feelings of loss, hurt, fear and anger felt by all Americans as we watched the collapse of the twin towers at the World Trade Center, the smoldering plane in Pennsylvania and the destruction of the West side of the Pentagon.

Jenkins' Job Fair

Fri, 09/02/2011 by Lynn Jenkins of US 2nd District of Kansas

Kansans continue to struggle to find work, so it should be the first priority of their representatives in Congress to create an environment where job growth and hiring can thrive again.  That is why I was honored this Thursday to host my second annual Jobs Fair at the Kansas Expocenter, and to be able to connect more than a thousand Kansans looking for jobs with emplo

Mars Jobs to Topeka

Sun, 08/28/2011 by Lynn Jenkins of US 2nd District of Kansas

This Tuesday, I had the pleasure of attending the ground breaking ceremony  at the site of the new Mars Chocolate Factory to be built in Topeka.  This new plant is the first Mars Chocolate facility to be built in the United States in 35 years, and Mars expects to make a $250 million capital investment in our community, creating more than 200 full time jobs in Topeka during the first phase of development.

Legislative Up Date

Fri, 08/19/2011 by Lynn Jenkins of US 2nd District of Kansas

As I continue the August leg of my Congress to Kansas tour, enjoying stops in Pleasanton, Osawatomie, Leavenworth, Lawrence, Lecompton, and Oskaloosa this week, I thought it would be nice this week to substitute my normal weekly report with a legislative update.  The goal of this week’s E-Newsletter is to provide you with an explanation, motivation, status check, and the Constitutional authority of some of the legislation I have introduced and continue to champion in Congress.  I hope you find this update helpful, and remember if

Fed Shouldn't be in Movie Business

Fri, 08/12/2011 by Lynn Jenkins of US 2nd District of Kansas

According to the New York Times the Obama Administration has given unprecedented and unfettered access to filmmakers producing a movie on the Osama bin Laden raid to be released by Sony Pictures, the only studio to hold a political fundraiser for the President this cycle, weeks before the 2012 election.  It was then revealed that it is common place for the Pentagon to assist established filmmakers with script research.

Debt Limit Deal

Sat, 08/06/2011 by Lynn Jenkins of US Representative 2nd District

This week the House of Representatives, with my support, passed the Budget Control Act.  This legislation provides a responsible resolution to the debt limit deadline, stays true to conservative principles, makes substantial cuts to the bloated federal budget, and lays out a path to getting our nation’s fiscal house in order without raising taxes on the American people.
