WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today released the following statement on the March jobs report which shows the economy added a mere 88,000 jobs and the labor participation rate has fallen to the lowest depths since 1979, the last year of Jimmy Carter’s presidency.

Congrats to KU

I’m pleased to congratulate the University of Kansas (KU) Cancer Center on its prestigious National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center designation. This designation is such an important development for us because it means that many Kansans and their families who have faced frightening diagnoses -- and trying treatments -- will no longer have to seek cures in distant locations.

Farm Bill Passes Senate

Yesterday, June 21st, the 2012 Farm Bill passed the Senate on a bipartisan vote of 64 to 35.

I’m proud to say this Farm Bill reforms farm programs and saves taxpayers more than $23 billion. Itconsolidates and streamlines more than 100 programs and is indeed reform and progress. It moves farm programs away from subsidies and toward a safety net that aids producers only when they need help.

Post Office News

Good news for Kansas – especially for our postal workers. The United States Postal Service (USPS) has recently announced its decision to consolidate the Central Repair Facilities in both Topeka and Grand Prairie, Texas. This means that after the current contracts expire at the end of 2012, both facilities will be consolidated into one – at the Topeka location.
