Atchison's Shelby Ross Wins

Shelby Ross got more than motivated at the Get Motivated seminar in Kansas City May 31st. As part of the day long event, a dance contest was held during the lunch hour. Ross was selected to go on stage and by audience response won. His prize is a trip for four to Walt Disney World.

35th Birthday of Forest of Friendship

June 18th will be the celebration of the 35th Birthday of the International Forest of Friendship located at Warnock Lake. As in past years, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and other area youth will start the Parade of Flags at 9:45 AM. Flags from all 50 States and 35 Countries will grace the Forest. Activities continue until 11:00 AM with games, magic, and other activities. Registration for youth carrying flags starts at 8:30 AM at the Forest Entrance.

Memorial Weekend Activities

Saturday, May 28, was a busy day around Atchison. The start of Memorial Weekend and summer featured a car show put on by MGPI employees and the Vintage and Experimental Aircraft Fly-In. EAA Chapter #967 has sponsored a Fly-In at Amelia Earhart airport for many years. Both events provided residents an opportunity to view some special machines.

 

 

 

Memorial Mass at Mt. Calvary

Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring the annual Memorial Day Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Monday, May 30th at 10 AM. In case of inclement weather Mass will be held at St. Benedict's Church.

Organ recital, May 22nd, 2 PM at Mr. St. Scholastica chapel performed by Dr. Ruth Krusemark, BC music department chair and Sister Janelle Maes, organist for Benedictine Sisters of Mr. St. Scholasitca. They will feature works by Franck, Widor, Mendelsohn, Vierne, Messiaen and Pachelbel. All invited to attend.

Relay for Life

The 2011 Relay for Life will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 24 June, and conclude at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, 25 June, The event will be held at Amelia Earhart Stadium. Everyone is encouraged to attend even if they aren’t on a walking team. There will be activities, an auction, games, and food as well as a survivor dinner.


CCA Celebrating 45 Years
