The monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW is Sunday, May 1st at 2 PM. The election of officers will be held at this meeting. Collection of school supplies for Boys & Girls Club is at this meeting. The meeting will be held at the Post Home, 2201 Main St., Atchison.

Easter

VFW Children's Easter Party

April 17, 2011 the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1175 hosted an Easter Party for the children of Atchison. Over 50 children attended. Each child received a goodie basket of candy-filled eggs, safety materials and a surprise. In addition, six children received door prizes. These included stuffed bunnies, model trucks and stuffed Easter baskets.

VFW Aux. Community Service Rec.

Several local organizations have recently been adopted by the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1175. The unit has a monthly Community Service Project. This fall the Ladies have worked with the Atchison Police Dept. by donating stuffed animals for the crisis team, the Salvation Army's Food Pantry and Project Warmth coat drive, NEK-CAP's Christmas Bureau, First Christian Church's food pantry and Atchison Animal Control. The current project is a collection of paper, cleaning and personal hygiene products for DoVES.

The Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1175 recently presented several Patriotic Citizen Certificates and American flags. Certificates were given to Project Concern and Free Country Design and Construction. Free Country was also presented with replacement flag. Josh and Carrie Sinclair received a flag as well. Businesses and local citizens are recognized as "Every Day Americans" for flying the American Flag daily. More businesses will be recognized in the coming weeks.

VFW Auxiliary New Meeting Date

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1175 will meet Sunday, March 6, at 2 pm at the Post Home, 2201 Main St. The meetings usually held on the first and third Monday evenings will now be held on the first and third Sunday afternoons to better accommodate members with children.

VFW Children's Christmas Party

A Children's Christmas Party will be held Sunday, Dec. 19th from 2-3:30 pm at the VFW Post 1175, 2101 Main Street.  Hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary, the Party will have a special guest from the North Pole as well as treats and goodie bags for every child.

VFW Auxillary Dues Due

The Ladies Aux VFW Post 1175 is currently collecting dues for the 2011 year. They are still $15 for active members or reinstatements. The December meeting will be held Dec. 6 at 7 pm at the Post. The Dec. Service project is to bring something for the NEK-CAP Christmas Bureau. Each member is asked to bring a snack to share for a Christmas hospitality table following the meeting.

VFW Youth Halloween Party

The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post #1175 is hosting a Youth Halloween Party from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Post Home, located at 2201 Main St. Atchison.
 
Children ages 0-12 are welcome to attend, accompanied by an adult.  Costumes are encouraged but not necessary.  There will be games and a visit from the local Fire Department, who will give a safety talk.  Treat bags and refreshments will also be provided.
