Whitmer Receive Eagle Scout

Justin Whitmer, Troop 86, received his Eagle Scout Award in a ceremony Sunday, November 4th. The ceremony was held at First Presbyterian Church in Atchison. Troop 86 is sponsored by the church. Justin is the son of David and Cindy Whitmer.

4 Atchison Youth Learn New Skills in Arkansas

Michael Ghigliotti, Justin Whitmer, Jeffery Welch, Corey Houchei, and Krista Houchlei attended Venture Quest 2012. Dana Houchlei also attended as an advisor. Michael and Justin participated in the climbing program while Jeffery, Corey, and Dana became certified SCUBA divers. Krista learned to shoot hand guns and try her hand at catching fish on a fly rod. Everyone started at Camp Geiger, near Saint Joseph.

Boy Scouts Training

Starting Friday, March 23, about 140 scouts and scouters are expected to gather at Camp Kanza for the annual Wagon Wheel Training Retreat (JLT). Participants are expected from as far away as Maysville, MO. 

 

This year a new program is being offered for Venturing Crew officers. Other programs include Adult Leader Training, Orientation for new Boy Scouts, Junior Leader Training for older scouts, and an Advanced program for those who have completed the other program. 

 

Meyers and Moranz Receive Eagle

Sunday, Feb. 19, Tom Meyers and Kenny Moranz of Troop 86 were awarded their Eagle Scout Badges at a special Court of Honor. The court was held at First Presbyterian Church, which sponsors Troop 86. Tom is the son of David and Marta Meyers and Kenny is the son of Fred and Leslea Moranz. Both are students at Atchison High.

 

The Eagle is the highest rank that a Boy Scout can achieve. Each new Eagle has worked for seven years to complete all the requirements. A reception was hosted by the families following the ceremony.

Scouts Display Saturday, Oct. 1

There will be a lot happening in Atchison Saturday, Oct. 1. The traditional Octoberfest is sponsored by the Junior Guild will ocupy the Mall. Model Railroaders will put on displays in MemorialHall. Area Boy and Girl Scouts will show off their programs on the River Front at the end of Commercial Street.

 

AES 4th Graders Have Flag Retirement Ceremony

Sexton, Euler, Myers Buring Flag Mrs. Sexton’s 4th grade class asked Scout leaders from Troop 86 for their assistance in the 2nd annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at Atchison Elementary School on Sept. 10, 2010 as a conclusion to the flag etiquette unit they had been studying in Social Studies the past several weeks. Mr. Doug Sexton, Kanza District Activities chairman, Mr. Dave Myers, Troop 86 Committee chairman and Mr. Seth Euhler, Kanza District Executive performed the ceremony.
