Scouting For Food Tags Distributed Tomorrow

Starting at 8 am Saturday, November 6th, Atchison Boy and Girl Scouts will be out putting tags on doors announcing Scouting For Food. Collection will be the following Saturday morning. None parishable food items need to be placed on the front porch before 9 am so the scouts can pick them up.

Scouts Experience the Tallgrass Prairie

House at Tallgrass PreserveHouse at Tallgrass PreserveThe weekend of the 23rd we (scouts of the Wagon Wheel Troops) had a camp out in the flint-hills. We went on a 6.5 mile hike and had a great time. Michael Ghigliotti, Kyle Mason, Nathaniel Curry, Blake Wilson, Ethan Hale, Sterling Falk, and I (Ian Bollinger) all had fun especially by the lake. The hike was fun and we managed to keep ahead of the adults most of the time.

Local Scouters Clear Camp Kanza Dam

Joe Lienemann Provided a 4WheelerJoe Lienemann Provided a 4WheelerA group of Atchison Boy Scout Leaders and volunteers spent Saturday, October 30th, morning cutting trees and clearing the back side of the dam at Camp Kanza. The group was lead by Allen Reavis.

Camp Kanza is located about four miles south of Atchison and is used by local Boy Scout units for primative camping.

Kanza Clean Up Tomorrow

Kanza DamKanza DamAll Atchison Scouters are asked to help clear the dam at Camp Kanza Saturday, October 30. Meet at 8 in the morning and plan on being done by 1. Supplies needed will include gloves, chainsaws, ropes, and other work tools. For more information contact Allen Reavis.

Wagon Wheel Troops Camping in the Flint Hills

This weekend Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th we will be having a camp out at the flint hills. We will meet on Saturday at 7am and will be leaving around 7:45am. On this camp out we will be hiking 6 miles in the flint hills. Your child will need to eat breakfast before we leave on Saturday. We will be at our hiking area around 11 so we will eat lunch while hiking. We will either eat trail food or M.R.E.'s. Your will not need a huge hiking backpack for this hike a day-pack (school style of backpack) will do.

Mic-O-Say Dance Team Events

Dance practice is today, Sunday, at 3 pm. Practice will be held at Sacred Heart school building. The next dance is will be October 17th in Atchison. The practice is in preparation for the show.

Improvements at Camp Kanza

Kanza ImprovementKanza ImprovementSaturday a group of scouters lead by Rex Bollinger continued working on improvements to Camp Kanza. The Boy Scout Camp is a few miles south of Atchison. This phase of the project was to put in a retaining wall behind the shelter. This was one of the items on Bollinger's Woodbadge "Ticket". Woodbadge is the advanced training program for Boy Scout Leaders.

October 30 is a camp clean up day where all area scouters and older scouts are asked to spend the morning clearing the dam.

Clean-up at Camp Kanza

Calling all Atchison area scouters to help clean-up Camp Kanza on Saturday, October 30th. Come with gloves, cutting tools, and any equipment that might be needed to cean off the dam. We will assemble at 8 in the morning and plan to be done between noon and 1 in the afternoon. For more information contact Allen Reavis.

Russel Whitney Receives Eagle

Tonight at the Wagon Wheel court of honor Russel Whitney of troop 94 was awarded the highest honor achievable in scouting. The son of Janette and David Whitney; Russel has been in Boy Scouts since he was 11 years old, since day one he has always been an enthusiastic scout and an excellent leader. He says that Randy Jewell has always been his number one influence to get his eagle, in an interview he said “if it were not for Randy I probably wouldn't have got my eagle done.
