Gerard Louis “Hardy” Wohletz, 93 of Effingham passed away Thursday November 11, 2010 at Medicalodge of Atchison.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday November 22, 2010 at St.Ann’s Parish Hall in Effingham, KS with Father Benjamin Tremmel, OSB as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St.Ann’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 3:00PM to 5:00PM with a Parish Rosary being recited at 5:00PM Sunday November 21, 2010 at Becker Chapel, Effingham KS. Gerard “Hardy” Wohletz was born March 11, 1917 the son of the late Edward and Anna (Schmitz) Wohletz. Hardy farmed for seventeen years, thirteen of them west of Wichita and four around Effingham. He owned and operated Hardys Garage from 1958 to 1966 before working at Alexander Lumber for four years; he then worked at Page Airways of Atchison for ten years before retiring. Hardy was a member of the St.Ann’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #10321; he was a four degree knight. Hardy enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, woodworking and being a mechanic.
Gerard “Hardy” Wohletz marred Ruth M. Candreia on May 6, 1941 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church; she preceded him in death on October 16, 2008. Survivors include two sons, Louis Wohletz, Lyndon KS, Leo (Jan) Wohletz, Denton KS, two daughters, Alice Wessel, Effingham, KS, Judy Logan, Eskridge, KS, a brother, Walt (Eileen) Wohletz, Effingham, KS, a sister, Bertilda Zeltner, Everest KS, eight grandchildren, five step grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, thirteen step great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and three step great great grandchildren. He also preceded in death by an infant sister, a son in law, Jerry Wessel, a daughter in law Sharon Wohletz and a brother in law Bernard Zeltner.
